Timothy Andersen, MNAA, The Appraiser's Advocate

Tim Andersen has been actively involved in the appraisal of real property since 1986. Since then he has worked for some of the largest appraisal firms in Palm Beach County, Florida, the County Property Appraisers Office, as well as himself. His experience in appraisal extends from Key West in the south to Brooksville on the northwest part of the state, and many places in between. This experience includes, vacant sites and raw land, office buildings, apartment complexes, warehouses, schools, day care centers, condo units, condo complexes, and so forth. He has done expert witness work, tax appeals, eminent domain, mortgage, and estate work.
In 1990, the former Society of Real Estate Appraisers awarded him the SRPA designation. In 1997, the Appraisal Institute awarded him the MAI designation. In 2002, he qualified to be a USPAP instructor. He still teaches both the 7-hour update and 15-hour qualifying classes to both real property and personal property appraisers. His formal education consists of a Bachelors degree in Business Administration, as well as a Master of Science degree, specifically in real estate appraisal, from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
Teaching, writing, and consulting with his fellow appraisers are what he loves to do. He started teaching the sales persons and brokerage classes in the mid 80s at the local community college, then taught basic appraisal classes when it offered those programs. He has taught for the Appraisal Institute, the National Association of Master Appraisers, the National Association of Appraisers, National Aircraft Appraisers Association, the Association of Texas appraisers, the State of Arkansas, the State of Oklahoma, the Wisconsin Realtors® Association, the Columbia Institute, as well as numerous proprietary schools. In addition to teaching, he has also written numerous articles on various facets of real estate appraisal, two books (with another in the works), as well as numerous classes and seminars on various real estate appraisal-related topics.
Tim and his wife Debbie live in Florida, with their three children and their four grandchildren close by.

Jason Covington, MNAA, Velox Valuations

Jason Covington, MNAA, Velox Valuations

Jason is a certified residential appraiser working for an appraisal firm; Velox Valuations. He is a boots on the ground appraiser completing assignments for lenders, banks and AMC's across the country in his market of Nashville, TN.

Based on 22 years of industry experience and 17 years of appraisal experience, Jason is a self-starter and entrepreneur with strong leadership skills including teaching, training and mentoring with exceptional interpersonal skills including listening and communicating, encouraging and motivating others, negotiating, and fostering strong business relationships while staying eager and able to learn new concepts and skills quickly while also staying abreast of the latest industry trends and issues.

Jason's experience in the profession includes things like construction, building and framing. He has experience as a loan officer and has owned and operated an AMC. He has ran and operated a large regional bank appraisal management system and has served on the Tennessee Real Estate Appraisal Commission. Jason has been invited as speaker and presenter as an industry expert for Banks, Lenders, Mortgage companies and Real Estate Brokers and Agents. Jason returned to the field as a working appraiser in 2015 and is currently finishing the sponsorship of his second trainee.

Jason is a designated member of the NAA and is currently serving on the membership committee. Jason has attended and participated in the most recent ACTS conference and the 2021 Appraisal Summit and will be in attendance at the 2022 ACT's conference in Charleston, SC.

Hal Humphreys is a real estate appraiser with 30+ years in the business. He's served as an expert witness in civil and criminal cases and as a contract investigator for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. Hal is co-founder and partner of Appraiser eLearning and its sister company, PI Education. He’s also a private investigator and an occasional journalist whose work has appeared in Fast Company and on NPR.

Barry Phillips, MNAA, Phillips Appraisal

Barry Phillips, MNAA, Phillips Appraisal

Barry Phillips is a Certified Residential Appraiser from Greenville, SC. Barry founded Phillips Appraisal in 2003 and provides residential valuation services to 6 counties in upstate South Carolina.

He has 22 years of experience as an appraiser, mentor, supervisor, and leader. He holds the Home Measurement Specialist (HMS) designation. Barry has served on the South Carolina Professional Appraisers Coalition (SCPAC) for 6 years and served as president in 2021. He is also the past president of the Upstate Chapter of SCPAC.

Barry has specialized in appraising for VA for over 10 years and FHA for over 15 years. He also specializes in technology and mobile appraising and teaches webinars to appraisers throughout his state.

He is a decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran, who served in Desert Storm. While enlisted in the military, he also attended Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, VA. He studied Civil Engineering at Clemson before transferring and obtaining a degree in Electronic Engineering.

He is the host of the Clubhouse (social media) Real Estate Appraisal Trainee Talk session every Monday at 4pm ET and often co-hosts on Tuesdays with Tim show at 4pm ET.

Barry has a deep passion for helping others get into the Real Estate Appraisal industry and passing on his years of knowledge and experience to the next generation of appraisers.

Barry was elected to the NAA Board of Directors for a 3-year term in 2022.

Cathy Putegnat, MNAA, Aloft

Cathy Putegnat, MNAA, Aloft

Cathy is a Senior Appraiser, Aloft Appraisal since December 2021. She currently serves on the board of the National Association of Appraisers as treasurer and as a member of the NAA’s Industry Partner Alliance Committee (IPAC). She is has been a Certified Residential appraiser for 21 years starting in the Denver metro area, followed by 12 years in Hawaii and now currently licensed and appraising in Oregon and Washington State since 2018 and a VA panel appraiser since 2008. Cathy has a passion for service to her professional community and the issues that impact us. When she is not doing appraisals or training new appraisers, she enjoys time working in her garden, doing service for others, and spending time with her 2 grandchildren and 3 grand-doggies.
